Philips Medical Systems, Best, Nederland

Level 3 Technical Support Engineer, Cardiology Informatics (April 2010 > )

I have just begun working for the Cardiology Informatics business group within the Healthcare Informatics branch of Philips Medical Systems in The Netherlands.  Further information on this role will follow soon.

Technical Support Engineer, Radiology Informatics (July 2007 - April 2010)

Working for iSite PACS at Philips Medical Systems in Best, my duties include remote monitoring/management/fault resolution of iSite hardware and software in hospitals all over the world. Philips iSite PACS is a leading enterprise-wide medical image and information management system. PACS systems are innovative systems that deliver on-demand diagnostic-quality images over existing hospital networks.

The iSite setup includes high-specification clustered fail-over database & web servers, replicated RAID 5 Direct Attached Storage (DAS) units for critical image data, and load-balanced DICOM servers.

The core technologies used include: Clustering, Load-Balancing, MSSQL 2000/2005 database servers, Windows 2000/2003 Servers, Active Directory Domains, DICOM, HL7, iSyntax image delivery, Legato clustering and more.

My role as a Technical Support Engineer requires me to pro-actively monitor the iSite systems in hospitals around the world, to provide a 24/7/365 always-available radiology PACS system. It is a fast-paced, life-critical work environment; ensuring images are available to surgical doctors, radiologists and technicians.

MD Website Designs (2002 - Current date)

Self-Employed Website Designer/Manager

During 2001/2002 I gained an interest in website design programming, initially creating a few websites for fun as a general hobby.
Over the years I developed my skills and began designing for local businesses, building new sites and repairing existing ones.

On June 26th 2006 I launched my largest website which had taken over 3.5 years and a vast expense to create; bikermatch.co.uk. This website is a social and dating site specifically for motorcyclists and has developed into one of the biggest and most popular UK biking websites, currently with 25,000 members and 27 staff.

Managing this website has given me extremely valuable experience as a company director, website designer, network engineer, server manager and team leader.

England (< June 2007)

Information Technology Branch
Greater Manchester Police
(2001 – June 2007)

Senior IT Service Delivery Officer (2002 – 2007):

As a key worker in this ITIL-based environment, I was responsible for fault rectification and maintenance of all IT and telecommunications equipment and infrastructure. Serving a network with 15,000 users, 6,000 computers, 150 servers, 8,000 IP telephones, 50 telephone ISDX switches, 4 Meridian VoIP servers and covering over 600 square miles. I provided 2nd and 3rd line support for approximately 8,000 diverse software applications deployed throughout the force.

In my role as a Senior IT Service Delivery Officer, I progressed over several years from a Helpdesk Operator (1st Line) to a Senior 2nd/3rd Level Service Engineer. Working in 3rd Level Support, I was responsible for ensuring a final solution was found for the most complex and diverse faults within the Police force.

Working on projects such as “Operation Protector” in summer 2006, which saw a full Police Operational Control Room be designed and created to support the UK Government Labour Party Conference in Manchester, I was responsible for ensuring that the control room and designated remote sites were designed, tested and built in a timely fashion, and also to support the equipment during the conference. I often took part in such projects.

IT Security/Network Access Officer (2001 – 2002):

The IT Security Team are also within the GMP IT Branch. My responsibilities here were securing access to the Greater Manchester Police network and resources, including shared areas, emails, sensitive data, external remote access, firewall issues and configuration. I was responsible for security related incidents and maintaining the secure access required in a police force. I have a comprehensive understanding of I.T. Security issues and appropriate solutions relating to a large organisation.

Zeus Computers (2000 – 2006)

Managing Director I have until recently been the Managing Director of Zeus Computers, a small online retailer of electronic equipment and services such as user training, web design, fault-rectification, system building, upgrades and more.  This company I set up in 2000 initially as a hobby.  I no longer run this business due to time constraints and emigration to the Netherlands.
